Therapeutic Taping

Therapeutic taping techniques may be used in the treatment and management of certain conditions, such as ankle sprain, dislocated shoulder, and wrist sprain. These techniques can help prevent injury and protect you from re-injury as you return to activity.

Therapeutic taping and strapping may be used to:

  • Protect and support the injured structure to allow optimal healing without stressing the injured structures.
  • Limit the movement in an injured joint to prevent excess or abnormal movement.
  • Provide support to the muscles surrounding the joint that may be under additional strain due to an injury.

Limiting the movement in an injured structure is important for injury prevention and healing. However, it is also important to apply taping in conjunction with a progressive exercise program that is designed to help you safely regain the strength, flexibility, and muscle control that you need to return to activity.

Kinesio® taping

Kinesio taping is a popular form of taping that uses kinesiology tape. Kinesiology tape has an elasticity of up to 140 percent of the tape’s original length. Kinesio taping involves the application of specific therapeutic taping techniques, applied over and around muscles, to either give support or prevent over-contraction. Learn more
