
Having been active her whole life, Sonja’s goals are to help people to return to the activities they enjoy and allow them to participate fully in work, play, and every day life. An exceptional athlete and skilled physical therapist, Sonja brings a wealth of expertise to the practice.
Sonja has extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of orthopedic and neurological conditions. She believes that with the proper combination of manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercise, and other tools, therapists can help patients overcome injury and disability.
She is a CAT 1 Road Racer, Level 3 cycling coach, and former professional mountain biker. As the 2011 Mid Atlantic Cat 1/2 Criterium and 2008 Mid Atlantic Cat 1/2 Time Trial and Road Race Champion, Sonja offers the cycling community unparallel expertise with respect to injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance improvement programs.
Sonja also enjoys rock climbing and has climbed several popular big walls, including Yosemite's El Capitan and Half Dome, as well as several routes in Rocky Mountain National Park including routes on the Diamond of Long's Peak. Locally she enjoys climbing in West Virginia.
Sonja earned her degree in Physical Therapy in 1989. She is a Maitland trained Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist (COMT) and incorporates other Australian and New Zealand techniques, including McKenzie and Mulligan, in her physical therapy treatment. Sonja is a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist (OCS) and is certified in Intramuscular Manual Therapy (IMT), also known as "trigger point needling." She moved to Washington, DC from Colorado in 2005.
